Creating An Inviting Yard

I have always been one of those people who loves to create a warm, inviting atmosphere for others, which is why I started looking at landscaping design in the first place. It was incredible to me to see how much of a difference I was able to make by adding a few new plants, and after that first project, I wanted to help other people. I started volunteering to help friends and neighbors do their landscaping, and after a few months, I had developed quite a following. This blog is all about creating a warm, inviting yard through smart landscaping and an eye for detail.

How To Decorate Your New Office

by Addison Washington

Have you just received a promotion? Perhaps you have started your own business and you have a new office from which you will do your work. No matter the reason you are decorating a new office, from selecting the furniture to buying plants for the office, here are some ideas that might help.

The Plan - Think about what you will be doing in your office.

  • For example, besides the traditional desk and chair, will you need something like a circular table and accompanying chairs for meetings?
  • Will you sometimes be staying very late at work? If so, consider including a recliner or a futon as part of your office furniture so that you will have access to a place to rest.
  • Do you do a lot of research as part of your profession? If so, think of buying a large bookshelf that will hold reference books and decorative pieces.
  • Think of having a small refrigerator in which you can keep things like beverages and cold cuts for when you can't go out for a meal.

The Extra Touches - Here's where you get to express your personality the most. No matter what else you do for decorations, don't forget to include family photos and photos of friends. Select frames that match the decor. For example, if you want an elegant office, consider framing the pictures in gold or silver.

  • What do you love to do while you're not at work? For example, do you love gardening?
  • If you have a love of gardening, think of having prints or paintings of floral scenes as part of the wall decoration.
  • If you love sailing, hang pictures of different sailboat and beach scenes in the office.
  • No matter what the theme is for your office, plants are always an excellent touch.

If you decide to use plants for the office, think about how you will care for them. Consider buying succulents which don't require a great deal of care. Another idea is to purchase silk plants that require very little care. All you have to do is dust them off every now and then, and then they'll look like new. If you are set on having real plants, don't forget to keep a mister and a watering can in your office. It might be good to set a schedule for yourself that reminds you of when the plants need to be watered.
